Beanie Hats
Beanie hats are extremely popular hats at the moment both in fashion and utilitarian terms. These hats are usually made from soft materials and are usually simple round hats that pull over the head to cover it. Some may come with small visors although standard beanie hats won’t have any extras like this.
At the moment you can see all kinds of people wearing beanie hats from young children through to older people. This kind of hat, in its traditional form and made from wool, was often worn in winter months to keep the head warm. It is thought that the beanie name came from the slang word bean which was used to mean head. Nowadays, however, wearing a beanie hat is just as much a fashion statement for many people as anything else.
You can, for example, see a range of beanie hats being worn by teenage boys at the moment. The popularity of this hat came into play with this age group a few years ago. Most people think it came down from the rock group, skateboarding, snowboarding and BMX groups who liked a ‘grungy’ look. This kind of hat is also popular with winter sports enthusiasts of all ages.
Beanie hats here may well come with added elements to them. They are often popular with specific brands and logos on them and visors may be added. The visors on these hats, however, will not always be worn pointing to the front and may just as often be seen turned to the side or the back of the head!
Today’s beanie hats come in all kinds of colours and designs. Many are still made from wool but other materials such as felt, fleece and synthetic materials are often used in their manufacture as well. Many are made to withstand the elements as well as to look good on the street. So, for example, they may be designed to keep you warm and to minimise the effects of rain even if they aren’t fully waterproof.
It isn’t just teenagers who have adopted beanie hats as the hat of choice at the moment. A range of celebrities and fashion designers have started to use the beanie in recent years which has broadened their appeal and encouraged people of all ages to buy them. They have been, for example, particularly popular with celebrities who want something to cover their hair/head when they are having a dress down day but they know they’ll still be photographed!
