Trilby Hats
A trilby is a soft felt hat for men containing a narrow brim and a deeply indented crown. Today, these hats are made from tweed or wool, though when they were first designed, the material of choice was felt made from rabbit hair. The brim is flexible, rather than curved and although these hats are very similar to fedoras, they have a much narrower brim. The name of the hat comes from a play based on the novel Trilby by George du Maurier. The term trilby is one widely used in the UK, but in the US the term fedora does include the trilby hat.
It has always been a symbol of style and is the preferred headwear of many musicians. It is also popular in the Indie and Emo fashions, especially in the UK. The Christy’s trilby hat is the most famous of these hats. They come in various sizes to accommodate different head sizes and in a wide variety of colors. Thus it is possible to have one of these hats to coordinate several different colors of business suits or outerwear.
For tall men, the trilby hat is one that doesn’t accentuate their height. Although there is a wide variety of materials one can choose from for these hats, each of which carries a different price tag, the classic trilby hat is made from soft canvas material. All hats have a band around them, which may or may not be the same color as the rest of the hat. They are perfect for casual or formal wear and even for wearing as protection from the sun when working in the garden.
